Water

OEHHA performs major risk assessment and hazard evaluation activities relating to chemical contaminants in drinking water. These activities include developing health advisories, Public Health Goals for chemical substances in drinking water, Notification Levels, and providing toxicological assistance for chemical monitoring activities for the drinking water supply. The program also provides education to the public and other governmental agencies on drinking water contamination and drinking water regulatory standards development.

OEHHA announced that the state's Public Health Goal (PHG) for perchlorate in drinking water is consistent with the findings of a recent report on the chemical by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS).

The Public Health Goal for thallium was updated in 2004.

OEHHA announces a public comment period for the draft Public Health Goal for water soluble polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in drinking water.

OEHHA announced intention to initiate risk assessments in 2004 for the following chemicals: bromate, chlorite, haloacetic acids, and nitrosodimethylamine (NMDA).  Additionally, OEHHA announced intention to update reviews for the following chemicals: cadmium, copper, glyphosate, lindane, mercury, methoxychlor, oxamyl, pentachlorophenol, thallium, and trichloroethylene.
